Engine Cleaning Tool Usage Precautions

Date: 2025-12-16 Click: 8

The use of engine cleaning tools (such as high-pressure washer nozzle, brushes, specialized cleaning agents, steam cleaners, etc.) requires attention to detail. The core principle is to avoid damaging electrical circuits, precision components, and the protective coating of the engine compartment. Specific precautions can be categorized by tool type and operating procedure:

I. Pre-cleaning Preparations

Cover Sensitive Components
Wrap electronic components (such as ECU, fuse box, sensor connectors), wiring harness interfaces, ignition coils, alternator, and battery terminals with waterproof covers/plastic film to prevent water ingress, short circuits, or corrosion.

If the engine has just been turned off, wait 15-20 minutes for it to cool down to prevent hot components from shrinking and deforming upon contact with cold water, and to prevent the cleaning agent from evaporating and producing irritating gases.

Select Appropriate Tools and Cleaning Agents

Never use high-pressure water jets directly into engine compartment crevices (pressure recommended ≤3MPa). Prioritize low-pressure mist water jets or steam cleaners (temperature controlled at 80-100℃ to avoid damaging rubber parts). Use only a neutral cleaner specifically designed for engine compartments. Do not use strong acid/alkali cleaners (as they will corrode the anti-rust coating on rubber hoses and metal parts).
